When the Barents & the Baltic Sea Regions Meet
Looking at the zone of contact between the Baltic and Barents Sea regions might be more important than focusing on the Arctic Railway alone. The Arctic Railway project is an opportunity to empower Lapland and its companies in internationalizing their activities, to reinforce Finland accessibility to global supply chains and allow the European Union to protect the interests of European northerners at a global level. Thanks to the Arctic Railway the zone of contact resulting from the Baltic and Barents Sea regions convergence will favour trans-regionalism as well as being a catalyst in the management of the newly formed regional logistics hub. This is an opportunity for people living in Lapland to influence this zone of contact called the “Fennoscandia Wave”, economically, culturally and politically. With the largest area in the “Fennoscandia Wave”, Finland has an opportunity to gain competitive advantage over neighboring countries.
